2020年，瑞典经历了15年来最低速度的人口增长。人口增长急剧下降的部分原因是新型冠状病毒瘟疫大流行导致的高死亡率，但也有一部分原因是与前一年相比，移民人口净增减少了一半。
新型冠状病毒大流行给瑞典的人口数字留下了深刻的印记。根据瑞典统计局今天公布的官方人口数据，去年瑞典的人口获得了2005年以来最低的增幅——人口增长0.5%。人口总人数超过1030万。去年人口增加51,706人，这一增长几乎是2019年的一半。
人口的较低增幅部分是由于人口自然增长的减少，其中最重要的是原因是，与2019年相比，移民人口净增急剧减少。
瑞典统计局人口统计学家Tomas Johansson表示，从今天的统计数据可以得出的一个重要结论是，过去一年人口数量的变化不仅表现为相对较高的死亡人数，移民净增的减少也使瑞典人口增长达到15年来的最低水平。
