瑞典首相Stefan Löfven 在周四的新闻发布会上表示，政府决定在今年秋天晚些时候为12岁至15岁的儿童接种新冠疫苗。
Stefan Löfven说：“我们这样做是为了孩子的利益，新冠疫苗可以降低严重疾病的风险，因此也降低了学生缺课的风险。”
瑞典卫生局局长Johan Carlson说：“即使是年龄较小的群体也有罹患严重疾病和长期症状的风险。基于这一原因，卫生局今天决定进一步降低接种疫苗的年龄。”
根据瑞典政府的安排，低龄人群的疫苗接种将在11月初的秋假后启动。教育部长也呼吁各地区与学校校长加强协调衔接，推进疫苗接种，以便使尽可能多的儿童接种疫苗。
从世界上看，一些国家已经开始为12岁以上的儿童接种疫苗。瑞典卫生局表示，其决定也是跟踪这一发展趋势并进行全面评估的结果，认为为较年轻群体接种疫苗的好处远远大于其风险。
根据瑞典当局公布的数据，目前，已有超过80%的16岁以上的符合接种条件的人群接种过至少一剂疫苗，差不多75%的合格接种人群已经完成了疫苗接种。
