据路透社援引中国官方媒体《天津日报》周一报道，中国北方港口城市天津卫生部门发现首个Omicron 变种感染病例。
该报称，Omicron 变种感染是在12月9日由境外抵达该市的一名旅行者身上发现的，目前该患者正在医院接受隔离治疗。
另据路透社报道，英国首相鲍里斯·约翰逊周一表示，该国至少有一人在感染Omicron 变种后死亡，这是全球首个被公开证实死于该病毒变种的病例。
英国没有给出死亡患者的细节，也没有说明患者是否接种过疫苗或是否有潜在的健康问题。Omicron 变种感染造成的死亡可能在其他国家也发生过，但在英国以外还没有公开证实的死亡病例。
“不幸的是，现在至少有一名患者被证实死于Omicron 变种感染，”英国首相约翰逊在伦敦的一个疫苗接种中心告诉记者。
在宣布这起Omicron 变种感染死亡之前，英国表示，在英格兰不同地区已有10人因Omicron 变种而住院治疗。患者的年龄从18岁到85岁不等，大多数人均已接种两剂疫苗。
