根据一项新发现，新冠肺炎重症患者在住院期间发展为糖尿病，可能只是暂时的疾病，之后他们的血糖水平可能会恢复正常。
研究人员对 594 名在因新冠肺炎住院期间出现糖尿病症状的患者进行了研究，其中包括 78 名此前没有诊断出糖尿病的患者。与感染前已确诊过糖尿病的患者相比，很多新确诊的患者的血糖问题都不太严重。研究人员在《糖尿病及其并发症杂志》（ Journal of Diabetes and Its Complications ）上发表报告称，出院大约一年后，40% 的新诊断患者的血糖水平都回到了糖尿病确诊分界线以下。该研究的共同作者、波士顿马萨诸塞州总医院的 Sara Cromer 博士在一份声明中说：“这向我们表明，新诊断的糖尿病可能是与 新冠病毒感染的急性应激有关的一种短暂状态。”
“我们的研究结果表明……胰岛素缺乏，即使发生，一般也不是永久性的，”Sara Cromer 博士说。“这些患者可能只需要短期的胰岛素或其他药物，因此，医生需要密切关注他们，看看他们的情况是否以及何时会有改善，这一点至关重要。”
